My 21st; A Whimsical Dream

This is a really late post, considering that my birthday was in July.
I have so many people to thank for this party and I would like to share with everyone where I got my cake, dessert table, party supplies and buffet from since I got pretty good feedback.

I hope that these would help anyone who is planning their own party.

First of all, the location was at NSRCC which is located at Changi. It is pretty hard to get there, but there are shuttle busses provided to and fro the place. If you know anyone who is a member, you'll be able to get the cheapest rates, if not, anyone who is an NSmen or a regular would get you cheaper rates as compared to the public rates. (You can grab all the details from the website)

There's a huge living room, dining area and kitchen area, which in my opinion, is good for hosting parties like this. The bar table located between the kitchen and the dining room was a perfect location for the dessert table to be set up because I can put balloons at the back :)

This is my dessert table :)
The bad part about this place is that the ants are super quick! The ants flooded the dessert table in about an hour. Thank goodness the desserts were cleared pretty quickly.

So, you must be wondering who I got my dessert table from. Well, I spotted her on Instagram and read reviews about how sweet and meticulous she is, so I decided to order from her. Plus, she introduced her dessert table menu shortly before my birthday, so I jumped at the opportunity.
She is none other than My Sister Bakes! You can find her on instagram at @mysisterbakes as well. Oh and I heard that she's opening a baking studio and having baking classes so be sure to check them out!

This was how my birthday cake looked like. I told her my theme, the colours I would like to have and she tried to accommodate to my theme. I gave suggestions and ideas and she gave even more suggestions as she was more experienced and never was she impatient, given that I was quite fickle minded and indecisive. Though the cake came a little lop sided on the day due to a car that jam breaked in front of them, all else was good. (She did refund me a bit of money though it wasn't her fault, so it was a huge plus point <3)

Here's the inside of the cake. Please pardon the bad cake cutting, we didn't really know how to cut a two-tiered cake. I chose lychee buttercream for one tier and mango for the other. To me and most of my friends, it tasted great, but as usual, older folks didn't quite like the sweetness. Then again, you can't satisfy everyone, so it's ok! :)

Lemon meringue cupcakes

Red velvet rose cookies

Snickers bar cheesecake pie

Mini Earl grey cupcakes

So, my cake was 2-tiered, 8" and 5", able to feed about 70-85 people.
The dessert table was for 30 people since I already have the buffet, I didn't want to order too much desserts.
Here was what a 30 person dessert table would consist of:
- 24x lemon meringue cupcakes
 - 24x double choc with caramel chips cupcakes
 - 48x earl grey mini cupcakes
 - 48x red velvet rose cookies with cream cheese dip
 - 1x snickers bar cheesecake pie
- 1x marshmellow oreo smores bar (something like a brownie)

Total cost of the cake and dessert table was $593.20
Dessert table itself was $450, so the cake was $143.20 :)

Cake cutting :P

Would like to give a special shout out to my friend Daron, someone I met during my holiday job, a fellow temp who stayed up late just to help me decorate the cover of my guest book. I really loved it <3 <3

Next, the buffet was from Stamford Catering Services.

I ordered the Super Value Buffet 7+1 Courses at $7.50++/pax
These were the dishes I chose:
› Prawn Paste Chicken
› Breadcrumb Fish Fillet with Tartar Dip
› Signature Curry Vegetables
› Garlic Butter Rice with Mixed Vegetables
› Wok Fried Bee Hoon with Assorted Vegetables
› Japanese Maki Roll
 › Refreshing Mango Drink
› Egg Tofu with Mushrooms & Seow Bai Chye

Initially, I placed order for 70 people but the caterer suggested for me to order for 80 people instead as there would be free delivery. There was still too much food, but I guess having too much is always better than letting your guests go hungry. However, the drinks are always not enough, so if you are planning parties, be sure to get extra bottles of drinks just in case ok?

And as all of you have seen, the balloons were all from Mtrade Novelty because it was much cheaper than the physical stores you find at Bugis. Be sure to order weight for your balloons as well because I didn't and had to use the cups in the chalet HAHAHAHA.

As for the ribbons, paper pom poms and LED lights, I got them from the physical stores at Bugis. I cannot remember the name of the store, but just exit Bugis Plus via the exit beside Blackball, turn left and follow the road, you should find it.

Since my theme was whimsical dream, I DIY-ed some mini hot air balloons and clouds.
The photobooth back drop was pain stakingly done by my two younger brothers. I really cannot thank them enough <3

And yes, I smiled for photos the whole night, till my mouth almost went numb.

Little notes for my guests :)

More DIY-ed photobooth props!

Overall, I would say that this is a pretty good experience, hectic but definitely a good memory to look back to. I still cannot believe that I managed a party for 70-80 people (both my friends and relatives) all by myself. I guess I will never ever want to plan a party till my wedding. Such a tiring thing to do. For now, I'll be happy to just attend parties :)
